The Aygo is Toyota's take on an urban runabout. Jointly developed with Peugeot and Citroen (although the vehicle design is all Toyota's work), the Aygo has a frugal yet feisty three-cylinder engine, ultra-low running costs and superior quality to most cars in its sector. Available as a three or five-door, it will just about transport four six-foot adults in relative comfort, with nimble handling and a smooth ride. The Aygo+ model adds extra kit over the base model. An automated manual gearbox is also available with similar fuel consumption to the standard car.
The Aygo’s cabin is funky and, although the materials used clearly aren’t as plush or attractive as those in Toyota’s pricier models, it has a similarly sturdy, built-to-last feel. Given Toyota’s record for mechanical reliability, we’ve every reason to expect the car to be hardy.
