30 Oct 2009 - Continuation of Govt Car Scrappage Scheme

The scrappage scheme has been a useful mechanism to keep UK new car dealers in business during 2009. Whilst the scheme has been criticised for not doing enough to help save jobs in UK car production what people forget is that the UK is a huge parts supplier to the auto market globally & all new car sales has helped to secure those jobs. In addition let's not forget the livelihood of the UK dealers themselves & the scrappage scheme has certainly been particularly successful for the traditionally small brands such as Suzuki & Mazda. Of the large players Ford have been equally successful but typically at the expense of rivals Vauxhall. As the Scrappage scheme comes to an end dealers are once again going to find themselves having to compete nationally to secure new customers by offering great deal & discounts on most new car prices. Services like MyCarQuotes help customers compare the market but also allows dealers to sell cars to customers that they wouldn't otherwise get says Andrew Yell Owner of MyCarQuotes.co.uk

Govt Car Scrappage Scheme

In reply to the Money Programme article 'Car Makers in Crisis' Andrew Yell, Owner of MyCarQuotes commented "I think that there a number of 'good news' bits that regularly get overlooked. Prof Rees makes the point as others have done that the scrappage scheme is helping foreign factories. Well it can't very well help our car factories when we really hardly have any. But what it does do is help all the little component suppliers who are UK based & who supply the foreign factories - this is good for UK plc (Exports). It also helps keep jobs secure here (& with the weak pound our supply companies are well placed to capitalise. The other good news bit is that scrappage scheme is helping UK dealers to sell cars that they wouldn't otherwise well. Private sales of new cars are up 3% in June and the majority of these are in the City car/Super mini category which is seeing stratospheric growth (exactly what the Govt & the environment wants). In our small way (at www.MyCarQuotes.co.uk) we have seen the benefits too. We help customer looking for new cars to find the best deals across the UK. On the other side we help dealers sell more new cars outside of their local area. Over the last 2 months we have seen a significant upturn in our website traffic with an increasing emphasis on the smaller vehicles such as the new VW Golf, Peugeot 207, New Ford Fiesta.

The Govt Scrappage Scheme may not save the carmakers who are in crisis but it is playing its part in lessening the impact of a massive consumer downturn. Its only the responsibility of the car manufacturers to make vehicles which now fit with consumer demands (lower emissions, better mpg & better 'value'). Those manufacturers who are benefitting are those who have been quick to embrace these facts. Other manufacturers (eg Jaguar, Land Rover) may have to learn the hard way."

26 June 2009 - Ford and Vauxhall discounted prices and stock availability

When it comes to the volume manufacturers Ford seem to be well placed to make progress at the expense of Vauxhall's woes. It would seem that buyers are staying away from Vauxhall given the uncertainty over their financial situation. This is surprising given that Vauxhall dealers have some great offers out there at the moment with new pre reg Tigra's at just over £10,000 and the popular small Vauxhall Agila at £6,999. New Ford Fiesta & the new Ka are soaking up a lot of volume and there still seems to be a fair amount of stock availability at the moment. Obviously the announcement this week of another price rise might put an end to their good run. Toyota on the other hand seem to be struggling to get stock of the ever popular Toyota Aygo and this availability problem is mirrored at Peugeot too with a face lifted 207 due out soon" says Andrew Yell, Founder of MyCarQuotes.co.uk.

10 June 2009 - New VW Golf for under £10,000 from MyCarQuotes.co.uk

Customers looking to take advantage of the Government support scrappage scheme are now seeing some great manufacturer supported discounts to add to their initial saving. For example you can now get a new VW Golf S for under £10,000 if you have a qualifying vehicle for scrappage. Managing Director of price comparison site MyCarQuotes.co.uk Andrew Yell says "The first cars to be snapped up by consumers with the scrappage scheme were the smallest city type cars but the dealers had little margin to play with other than the obligatory £1,000 manufacturer contribution. What we are seeing now is move towards a higher price band and manufacturers offering increasing support & discounts to dealers to help fuel this fire whilst the Govt offers the additional £1,00 incentive". A brand new VW Golf S for under £10,000 certainly represents a lot of car for the money and customers are not slow to spot a bargain.

Note: MyCarQuotes.co.uk is a free service for customers looking to compare dealer discounts and there are no fees or commissions payable.
